Bridgeport Man Admits Robbing Banks in Milford and Woodbridge
Nora R. Dannehy, Acting United States Attorney for the District of Connecticut, announced that DOMINGO GONZALEZ, 51, of Success Village, Bridgeport, pleaded guilty today before United States District Judge Stefan R. Underhill in Bridgeport to two counts of bank robbery and one count of possession of a firearm during and in relation to a crime of violence.
According to documents filed with the Court and statements made in court, on January 28, 2009, GONZALEZ and two other individuals robbed the Webster Bank on Merwin Avenue in Milford of $84,259. On April 6, 2009, GONZALEZ and two other individuals also robbed the TD Banknorth on Amity Road in Woodbridge of $23,002.
During the January robbery of Webster Bank, GONZALEZ carried a firearm.
Judge Underhill has scheduled sentencing for October 16, 2009, at which time GONZALEZ faces a maximum term of imprisonment of 20 years and a fine of up to $250,000 on each count of bank robbery. In addition, for possessing a firearm during one of the robberies, GONZALEZ faces a mandatory five-year term of imprisonment, consecutive to any term of imprisonment imposed for the bank robberies.
GONZALEZ has been detained since his arrest on May 22.
This matter is being investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Milford Police Department, the Woodbridge Police Department, the New Haven Police Department, and the Connecticut State Police. This case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Sarah P. Karwan.
