Former Norwalk Resident Admits Transporting Minor for Illegal Sexual Activity

Nora R. Dannehy, Acting United States Attorney for the District of Connecticut, announced that WALTER AGUILAR, 25, a citizen of Guatemala last residing in Norwalk, pleaded guilty today before United States District Judge Janet C. Hall in Bridgeport to one count of transportation of an individual with intent to engage in criminal sexual activity.

According to documents filed with the Court and statements made in court, on February 7, 2009, AGUILAR transported a 14-year-old girl from Connecticut to Maryland where they engaged in illegal sexual activity.

AGUILAR has been detained since his arrest on February 11, 2009, in Hyattsville, Maryland.

Judge Hall has scheduled sentencing for October 6, 2009, at which time AGUILAR faces a maximum term of imprisonment of 10 years and a fine of up to $250,000. AGUILAR will be deported to Guatemala following service of his term of imprisonment.

Acting U.S. Attorney Dannehy commended the investigative efforts of the Federal Bureau of Investigation in Connecticut and Maryland, and the Norwalk Police Department. This case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Krishna R. Patel.
