New Haven Man Who Participated in PCP Ring is Sentenced
Nora R. Dannehy, Acting United States Attorney for the District of Connecticut, announced that CALVIN JONES, 41 of Ellsworth Avenue, New Haven, was sentenced today by United States District Judge Christopher F. Droney in Hartford to six months of imprisonment, followed by six years of supervised release, for conspiring to distribute phencyclidine ("PCP"). JONES pleaded guilty to the offense on May 27, 2008.
On March 26, 2008, a federal grand jury returned an Indictment charging JONES and seven other individuals with various narcotics offenses involving the distribution of PCP in New Haven and the surrounding area. The Indictment stemmed from a wiretap investigation conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation's New Haven Safe Streets Task Force.
According to documents filed with the Court and statements made in court, JONES assisted his half-brother, Maurice Armond, by delivering PCP to Armond's customers.
On May 15, 2008, Armond, also known as "Mo D," pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to distribute 100 grams or more of PCP. On October 1, 2008, Judge Droney sentenced him to 110 months of imprisonment.
This matter was investigated by the FBI New Haven Safe Streets Task Force, which is composed of representatives of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the New Haven Police Department, the Ansonia Police Department, the Milford Police Department, the Hamden Police Department, the East Haven Police Department, the Connecticut State Police and the Connecticut Department of Correction. This matter is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Robert M. Spector.
