Bridgeport Man Sentenced to 10 Years in Federal Prison for Role in Drug Ring

Nora R. Dannehy, Acting United States Attorney for the District of Connecticut, announced that LAVAUGHN BROWN, also known as “Vaughny,” 22, of Wilkins Street, Bridgeport, was sentenced today by United States District Judge Mark R. Kravitz in New Haven to 120 months of imprisonment, followed by five years of supervised release. On February 20, 2009, BROWN pleaded guilty to one count of possession with intent to distribute 50 grams or more of cocaine base (“crack cocaine”).

On February 14, 2008, a federal grand jury returned a 30-count Indictment charging BROWN and 21 other individuals with various federal drug trafficking, conspiracy, firearm and witness tampering offenses related to the distribution of cocaine and crack cocaine in southwestern Connecticut. According to documents filed with the Court and statements made in Court, on January 10, 2008, BROWN and his stepfather, Alan Donald, purchased 400 grams of crack cocaine for $14,000 from co-defendant Richard Davis. The transaction, which took place at a location on Iranistan Avenue in Bridgeport, was surveilled by law enforcement.

The investigation has revealed that Davis was supplied with large quantities of narcotics from Isni Gjuraj and Arbnor Gjini of Stamford, which he then redistributed to street level dealers in Norwalk and Bridgeport.

Davis, Gjuraj and Gjini have pleaded guilty to various charges stemming from their participation in this conspiracy. Each awaits sentencing.

On February 26, 2009, Donald, also known as “Bo,” was sentenced to 188 months of imprisonment.

This matter was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s Safe Streets Task Force, which is composed of members of federal and local law enforcement agencies, including the FBI, the Internal Revenue Service – Criminal Investigation Division, and the Norwalk, Bridgeport, Trumbull, Fairfield and Stamford Police Departments. This case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Tracy Lee Dayton of the U.S. Attorney’s Office Organized Crime and Drug Enforcement Task Force.
