NEW YORK MAN CHARGED WITH HEROIN TRAFFICKING

Nora R. Dannehy, Acting United States Attorney for the District of Connecticut, today announced that a federal grand jury sitting in Bridgeport has returned an Indictment charging FELIX A. EDUA, 33, of Lexington Avenue, New York, New York, with one count of possession with intent to distribute 100 grams or more of heroin. The Indictment was returned yesterday, April 17.

The Indictment alleges that, on or about April 2, 2008, EDUA knowingly and intentionally possessed with intent to distribute 100 grams or more of a mixture and substance containing a detectable amount of heroin.

The Indictment also seeks the forfeiture of an Acura 3.5 RL Sedan and $550 in cash.

If convicted, EDUA faces a mandatory minimum term of imprisonment of five years, a maximum term of imprisonment of 40 years and a fine of up to $2,000,000.

Acting U.S. Attorney Dannehy stressed that an indictment is only a charge and is not evidence of guilt. The defendant is entitled to a fair trial at which it is the Government's burden to prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.

This case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation's Safe Streets program, in conjunction with the Bridgeport Police Department, Tactical Narcotics Team, into the distribution of controlled substances throughout the greater Bridgeport area.

The case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney William M. Brown, Jr.
