HARTFORD MEN PLEAD GUILTY TO FEDERAL DRUG CHARGES
Kevin J. O’Connor, United States Attorney for the District of Connecticut, announced that KEAON MAJOR, also known as “Corey,” 29, of Suncrest Road, Norwalk, was sentenced today by United States District Judge Stefan R. Underhill in Bridgeport to 48 months of imprisonment, followed by five years of supervised release, for possessing with intent to distribute more than 50 grams of crack cocaine. MAJOR pleaded guilty to the offense on June 6, 2007.
According to documents filed with the Court and statements made in court, MAJOR was one of the subjects of an investigation into narcotics trafficking at the Colonial Village Housing Project in Norwalk. On August 21, 2006, law enforcement officers observed the occupants of a gray Nissan Maxima conduct two separate narcotics transactions in Norwalk, one in the vicinity of Westport Avenue and the other on Wolfpit Avenue. Based on these observations, the officers executed a traffic stop of the vehicle at the intersection of East and Everlsey Avenues. As MAJOR attempted to flee from the passenger side of the car, the officers observed a brown paper bag on the front passenger floor. A search of MAJOR’s person and the bag revealed, among other things, approximately 204 grams of crack cocaine, 139 grams of powder cocaine, nine grams of heroin, baggies of marijuana, a digital scale, drug-packaging materials and $2,409 in cash. A search warrant later executed at MAJOR’s residence yielded an additional amount of powder cocaine, more than $3,000 in cash and more drug paraphernalia.
This matter stems from an investigation conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s Safe Streets program, in conjunction with the Norwalk Police Department, into the distribution of controlled substances throughout the greater Norwalk area. This case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Harold H. Chen.
