GUILFORD MAN PLEADS GUILTY TO WILLFUL SALE OF UNREGISTERED SECURITY
Kevin J. O’Connor, United States Attorney for the District of Connecticut, today announced that EDWARD GOODS, 55, of Ledgeview Road, Guilford, waived his right to indictment and pleaded guilty today before Senior United States District Judge Ellen Bree Burns in New Haven to one count of willful sale of an unregistered security.
In pleading guilty, GOODS admitted that between September 1991 and July 2004, he willfully sold securities in investment entities that he controlled, Unity Corp. and Alko Enterprise Corp., to the public, without having first registered those securities with the Securities and Exchange Commission. According to statements made in Court, GOODS held a Series 7 broker-dealer license just prior to the time that he unlawfully sold the securities. GOODS further admitted that the amount of loss attributable to his commission of the offense was between $400,000 and $1,000,000. GOODS agreed to pay approximately $622,000 as restitution to the victims in this case.
Judge Burns has scheduled sentencing for May 9, 2008, at which time GOODS faces a maximum term of imprisonment of five years and a fine of up to $10,000.
The investigation was conducted by the United States Postal Inspection Service and the Federal Bureau of Investigation. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Edward Kang.
