OUTREACH |
The mission of the
New Haven Division's Community Outreach Program (COP) is
to provide outreach to the community it serves. This mission is
accomplished through the FBI's established partnerships and community-
and school-based programs in support of its investigative mission.
The FBI's COP objective is to assist in the prevention or reduction
of crime, drugs, terrorism, hate/bias, gangs and violence in the
school system and in the community. |

FBI
CITIZENS' ACADEMY PROGRAM |

The New Haven Division's Citizens'
Academy (CA) was implemented in September 2000. The CA is
an interactive eight-week (10 - Session) program that gives business,
religious, civic and community leaders an inside look at the
FBI. The next CA will be held in the Spring of 2008.

| Goals and objectives: |
| |
- To increase public awareness about the FBI,
its mission, its activities, and its people;
- To provide an avenue for the FBI to hear and
respond to community issues and concerns; and
- To strengthen relationships and improve understanding
between the FBI and communities it serves

Sessions are
taught by FBI executives, senior Special Agents and program managers.
The standard curriculum includes: |
| |
- International and domestic terrorism, counter
intelligence and foreign counterintelligence;
- White collar crime, including cyber crime,
identity theft, financial institution fraud, health care fraud,
organized crime and money laundering;
- Violent crimes including bank robbery, crimes
against children, fugitives, evidence recovery and hostage rescue;
- Firearms safety, SWAT, and deadly force policy
participants get an idea of the extensive weapons training FBI
Agents receive
- Employment, recruitment, and partnerships;
- Discussions on ethics, disciplinary policies,
communications, drug enforcement, civil rights and future trends
in law enforcement;
- Services the FBI provides to local and state
law enforcement agencies;
- Structure and operation of an FBI field office
and resident agency

Potential candidates
for the Citizens' Academy must be business, civil, religious,
or community leaders, who meet the following criteria: |
| |
- Must be at least 21 years of age
- Must have no prior felony convictions
- Must live or work within the territory covered
by the New Haven Division; and
- Must pass a background check
Security clearance must be obtained because the curriculum
covers investigative techniques used in national security and
criminal investigations.

DIRECTOR'S
COMMUNITY LEADERSHIP AWARD |
| |
Since its inception
in 1990, the FBI has annually recognized the achievements of individuals
or organizations who promote drug education and prevention by the
presentation of a Director's Community Leadership Award. This
Award is given to individuals or organizations actively involved
in gang, crime and violence prevention.

INFRAGARD
PARTNERSHIP |
| |
InfraGard is
an information sharing and analysis effort serving the interests
and combining the knowledge base of a wide range of members. It
is an association of business, academic institutions, state and
local law enforcement agencies, and other participants dedicated
to sharing information and intelligence to prevent hostile acts
against the United States.
The Connecticut Chapter of InfraGard is extremely active with over 600
members statewide.

SPEAKERS
BUREAU |

Special Agents and
professional support employees participate in the Speakers Bureau.
The New Haven Division may be able to provide a speaker to your
education, civic, or workplace-based organization upon receiving
a written request. Written requests must be received at least four
weeks prior to the event and on official business/organization
letterhead to ensure a speaker.
The New Haven Division will make every effort to ensure a speaker; however,
due to the volume of requests and availability of personnel, honoring
all requests is subject to change. The topic must be related to matters
within the FBI's jurisdiction. The request must include times, audience,
length of presentation and two dates if possible.

ADOPT-A-SCHOOL |
| |
The "Adopt-A-School" initiative
is a model program developed by the FBI and implemented throughout
school districts in the United States.
The New Haven Division declared its official partnership with the Vincent
E. Mauro Elementary Magnet School on November 17, 2000. This partnership
includes activities to assist students to thrive academically and become
model citizens in their communities. Activities have included mentoring,
tutoring, holiday drives, etc.

Due to ongoing renovations at the New Haven Division, office tours for middle and high schools students, as well as youth and civic organizations, have been discontinued. |
