| The New Haven Division is one of 56
FBI Field Offices in the United States and Puerto Rico. The
New Haven Office is the headquarters for FBI operations covering
the State of Connecticut. Our Special Agent in Charge (SAC),
who oversees the division, is Kimberly K. Mertz.
The FBI's presence in Connecticut dates back to 1921. At
that time, one Special Agent of the Justice Department's Bureau
of Investigation was assigned to Hartford. The
Bureau of Investigation became the Federal Bureau of Investigation
(FBI) in July of 1935. In 1941, the FBI Headquarters
for Connecticut moved to New Haven and the Hartford office
became a Resident Agency (RA), serving as a satellite office
of New Haven.
Presently, there are over 100 Special Agents and 75 Professional
Support Employees assigned to Connecticut. Agents are
assigned to a squad that has responsibility for a particular
crime problem or investigative program, such as:
|
| Counterterrorism |
| Counterintelligence |
| Intelligence |
| Cyber
Crime |
| White
Collar Crime |
| Civil
Rights |
| Criminal
Enterprises |
| Violent
Crimes |
| Depending upon their specific duties, Professional Support Employees
may be assigned to squads, program managers, or other specialized units.
In Connecticut, the New Haven Office is
our Headquarters with two satellite offices or Resident Agencies
(RAs) in Bridgeport and Meriden. The
Bridgeport RA covers Fairfield County and the Meriden RA covers
Northern Connecticut.
